Urban Outfitters Releases Tees Featuring Stonewall Rioters
Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson t-shirts make their debut
Well, well, well, look at what we have here. Urban Outfitters just released these new t-shirts, and much to our surprise, they feature the leaders of the Stonewall Riots: Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson. A-plus on that youth market research, Urban.
The project is apparently a coordinated effort between artist Miriam Klein Stahl and writer Kate Schatz, and includes a series of interviews featured on the UO blog. The t-shirts are around $40 with 100% of the profits going towards queer and trans legal advocacy group, Sylvia Rivera Law Project.
Not unlike rapper and performer Le1f starring in an Air BnB advertisement, these UO tees remind us that PR is the only thing paying independent artists for their work these days.
