A "Buy" Button, Diplo's Dick Picks, and How to Piss off Brooklyn Girls

Ahh! A music video all of Brooklyn can hate. We can't help but love what's going on in pop culture right now. With stuff like this, how can people be obsessed about their identity anymore? You can pretend you are post-authenticity all you like, just don't get angry when the inevitable occurs.

The craziest thing that happened today was probably the Malaysian Airline Boeing 777 which was shot down and crashed in eastern Ukraine near the Russian border, killing all 295 passengers. Ukrainian officials blame the Russians, saying their anti-aircraft system shot it down. But the Russians also say they weren't involved. The plane was en route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Amsterdam. Here's a video showing the plane wreckage after it crashed.

Sometimes it feels like I was born in the early 1900s and cryogenically preserved, only to be defrosted in the future-present. Since when are people just flying drones around, disturbing medical exams, and filming their weddings? Soon rich kids will be zipping to the moon on Spring Break and I'll be one of those old ladies they make a funny video of as I tremble through my first moon flight. Oh, and apparently there are military underwater drones now too?

Airbnb upping their PR game with a new logo. If you've missed it, people have lots of opinions on Airbnb. People hate it because it allows tourists to circumvent expensive hotels and stay in expensive places for cheap, which means: a) lots of “hotels” go untaxed, b) it furthers gentrification because tourists pay more per night than residents are willing to pay per month, pushing NYC residents further away from the city, and c) people dislike having hundreds of irresponsible vacationers flowing through their apartment buildings instead of permanent residents who give a fuck about what their neighbors think of them. On the other hand, Airbnb allows people living in some of the most expensive cities to supplement their income by renting out their room to tourists. In short, it's complicated. The video for the new Airbnb logo shows the pretty clever new design. Apparently the idea is for people to draw it on a piece of paper and place in their window — a kind of underground railroad for cosmopolitan millennials. As it turns out, everyone thinks it looks like a vagina.

Actress Elaine Stritch has died at the age of 89. We wish she was playing a trick on us, but no.

The UN thinks we'll hit peak births in 2014. The global number of births will hit a record 139 million in 2014 — and then start falling slightly thereafter.

More big news: today Facebook implemented a “Buy” button. Businesses can now sell their products to customers directly in their Facebook feed.

This map looks weird, probably because it's of Mars.

Some Harvard professor put together this pretty useful guide for how to read a research paper.

Microsoft is laying off 18,000 people.

Apparently, Amazon Cloud is one of the fastest growing software businesses in history.

Last chance to check out graffiti catacomb 5 Pointz — demolition begins in two weeks. Well, there isn't much to see anymore. It was white-washed in November, and even though some new works have gone up since, it's not the same.

Kreayshawn admits in her vblog that she was catfished by some guy pretending to be Diplo — for three years! She's now friends with Diplo and realized the scam after reminiscing with Diplo about all the dick picks he used to send her. Apparently the fake-Diplo wasn't just a creep, but was also really supportive of her work. “At the end of the day, whoever this troll was ended up inspiring my entire career.” Crazy story.

Cool Tumblr of the day: Hairy Legs CLub.

A new study on the political views of millennials, summarized by The Atlantic: “Millennials' Political Views Don't Make Any Sense”. Uuuhmm...
